In Peshawar, as in other districts of Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP), protest demonstrations were held against the US Commandos operations in the tribal belt following calls by the Amir Jamiat Ulama-i-Islam (JUI) Maulana Fazl-e-Rehman [Islamic] organisations.
Angry Taliban from the province's religious institutions carried placards and banners inscribed with the slogans against the present military set up and against the US as " US is the biggest terrorist of the world". However the Qissa Khawani Bazzar, where the demonstrators converged, remained indifferent to the protest procession and business was carried out as usual.
In a resolution passed unanimously, protesters demanded that the death by storing sentence passed on Zafran Bibi be carried out, and criticised the actions of the Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and President General Pervez Musharraf regarding the case.
