Aurat Foundation, Shirkat Gah, Women's Action Forum, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, and Amnesty International in joint statement demanded the transfer of Zafran Bibi from death row to a normal jail ward.
"We demand the government repeal all discriminatory laws against women including Hudood Ordinances, because unless these laws are repealed, women of Pakistan will not be able to get justice even in a court of law," they said. The statement also condemned police action against women's rights activists in Islamabad and urged the government to take appropriate action against those who unleashed violence against peaceful protesters.
"We believe that if present government is sincere towards women's empowerment it should undo all laws, which hold discrimination against women and undermine their equal legal and social states ' the statement said.
