the sessions court of Palghar in the Indian state of Maharashtra, sentenced three people to death for four murders committed over an inter-community marriage at Vasai in 2004. On May 17 of that year, three men and a 14-year-old boy were stabbed in a village at Vasai. The assailants also rained blows on two women. The altercation began when Prabhu Krishnan married Sushma Tiwari in October 2003 despite opposition from the bride's family. Six months later, his father Prabhu, his teenaged cousin and friend Abhay Raj were killed by Sushma's brother Dilip and two others. Sushma’s mother Tulsi, father Premnarayan, brother Dilip and his two friends - Sunil and Manoj – were all tried for the murders. During the trial, Sushma testified against her parents. She said they wanted her to marry a man from her community and when she refused, they threatened to kill her husband and his family.
