Special TADA Court Judge Darogha Prasad awarded the death penalty to three Maoists, Vyas Kahar, Naresh Paswan and Yugal Mochi, in connection with the Bara massacre in India. 37 male adults, belonging to a particular land-owning caste, were killed 16 years ago on February 12, 1992. Though TADA has been scrapped, the special law was in force when the massacre took place.
The six were facing trial now as they eluded police for several years. The third round of the trial is also likely to take place as Kirani Yadav, another accused, has since been arrested. Those awarded the death penalty are Byas Kahar, Naresh Paswan and Bugal Mochi. Tyagi Manjhi, Vijay Yadav and Madhusudan Sharma were acquitted for lack of evidence. The death sentences have to be approved by the Supreme Court.
