the Law Commission of India is planning to make the law regarding dowry death more stringent, hoping it would help restrain the occurrence of dowry related crimes. If the commission moves forward with its proposal after getting go-ahead from the states, dowry death would be punishable by death, a considerable advancement over the present punishment of life imprisonment. Section 304 B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Act would need to be amended.
