BANGLADESH: MAN AWARDED DEATH PENALTY FOR KILLING WIFE IN BHOLA

a court in Bangladesh sentenced a man to death and also fined him Tk 25,000 for killing his wife two years ago. The man was identified as Monirul Islam alias Moinna, 25, of Kalia in Daulatkhan upazila of the district. According to the prosecution, Monirul Islam hacked and slaughtered his wife Shahanaz Begum, 19, on December 19, 2002, as she tried to prevent her husband from doing different terrorist activities. On information, police recovered the body of Shahanaz from their toilet and arrested Monirul. District Sessions Judge M Idris Alam handed down the verdict.
