INDIA: DEATH FOR KILLING WIFE, 2 KIDS

after the Punjab and Haryana High Court confirmed the death sentence of a man for killing his wife and two children in Jalandhar in March 2005, Judge BK Mehta of a local additional sessions court issued warrants for his execution on September 20.

The convict, Sushil, an alleged drug addict and gambler, is currently in the Central Jail in Patiala. He was awarded capital punishment by the court of additional district and sessions judge Karnail Singh in April 2007. According to prosecution, the accused killed his wife Pooja, 25, and kids Jatin, 6, and Sofia, 4 by strangling and stabbing them on March 3 in his house at Rasilla Nagar in Basti Danishmanda area. He tried to show it as a case of robbery and even consumed poison to pretend that he was in a shock over the killings. His brother-in-law Sukhdev stated that the accused had strained relations with his wife.
