INDIA. DEATH PENALTY FOR KILLING COUPLE ON SORCERY CHARGE

Niranjan Khakhlary, 30, was sentenced to death by the Darrang district Sessions Court, India, for murdering a couple he believed to be practicing witchcraft. The incident occurred on May 31, 2005, at Kabirali Kadamguri village in Udalguri district.
The convict killed his neighbour Nelson Daimary and his wife Bimala Daimary with an axe on a village road. Both victims died on the spot. In a statement before the judge, Niranjan, said he was suffering from headaches and suspected that Nelson had cast a magical spell on him.
