the MP High Court's principal bench in Jabalpur awarded the death penalty to Mukhtar Malik and Asif Mamu, and life imprisonment to nine others in a 1996 murder case. On March 30 1996, Mukhtar and Mamu escaped from the HC premises minutes after they were found guilty of killing three people in a shootout. The Bhopal court initially issued the death penalty but later reversed its order. However, the High Court reversed this acquittal and the convicted are once again sentenced to death. Those killed in the shoot out were Salim Baba, Salim Bucha and Omar Ezhar.
