the Indian Supreme Court upheld the death sentence awarded by the Bombay High Court's Nagpur bench to a 55-year-old man for kidnapping, raping and brutally strangling a 10-year-old mentally retarded girl. The death penalty awarded to Shankar Khade by the Achalpur district court was upheld by the High Court's special division bench in 2007. Khade, from Achalpur, and his wife allegedly kidnapped the minor girl from her grandparents place on July 20, 2006.
