INDIA: TAMIL NADU MAN GETS DEATH FOR BURNING CHILD TO DEATH

in India, a man named Venkatesan Anna was sentenced to death for the murder of a nine year old girl named Rebecca. Venkatesan worked as a van driver for Rebecca’s mother, Sheeba Elizabeth, at her orphanage. Sheeba took in a destitute woman named Sakeela, who started a romance with Venkatesan. When Rebecca’s mother discovered the romance she insisted they stop as it would damage the reputation of the orphanage. When they continued seeing each other Rebecca’s mother ordered them both to leave. In retaliation, Venkatesan later returned to the orphanage, asked Rebecca to hold a candle for him and doused the girl in kerosene. She died of severe burns in the Kilpaul Medical College Hospital on March 28, 2006.
Venkatesan was sentenced to death by K Asokan, Judge of the Fast Track Court-III at Poonamallee.
