October 11, 2026 - IRAN. Ayoub Mohammad Nabil executed in Rasht on October 11
On espionage charges
Ayoub Mohammad Nabil, a 28-year-old Iraqi man, was executed on a charge of “moharebeh (waging war against God) through espionage for Saudi-backed groups”.
According to information obtained by Hengaw, Nabil, an Arab political prisoner from Haditha, Iraq, was executed at dawn on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Lakan Prison in Rasht.
Sources familiar with the case told Hengaw that Nabil had been transferred to solitary confinement the previous Thursday in preparation for his execution. The transfer followed an escalation in fighting between Saudi military forces and the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.
Hengaw previously reported that Nabil was arrested on August 26, 2025, by Intelligence Ministry agents in Fuman, Gilan Province.
Nabil was held for five months at an Intelligence Ministry detention facility in Rasht, where he was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture, before being transferred to Lakan Prison.
Hengaw reported that the security case against Nabil was based solely on his Sunni Muslim religious identity, his appearance and his involvement in teaching the Quran to local children. Nabil had denied all allegations against him.
Iranian state media and judicial authorities have not publicly announced his execution.
