A political prisoner
The death sentence of Manouchehr Fallah, a political prisoner held in Lakan Prison in Rasht, has once again been upheld by the Supreme Court. Following the ruling, his case has been forwarded to the Criminal Sentence Enforcement Unit in Rasht.
According to HRANA, citing Emtedad, the Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence issued against Manouchehr Fallah.
Fallah’s death sentence, which was reissued in June 2026 by Branch 1 of the Rasht Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Ahmad Darvish Goftar, has been upheld by the Supreme Court. According to the report, the political prisoner’s case has been referred to the Criminal Sentence Enforcement Unit in Rasht for implementation of the sentence.
In February 2025, Manouchehr Fallah was sentenced to death by Branch 2 of the Rasht Revolutionary Court on the charge of moharebeh (enmity against God). The sentence was reportedly upheld by the Supreme Court in November of the same year. However, following the acceptance of a request for retrial, the Supreme Court overturned the ruling and referred the case to Branch 1 of the Rasht Revolutionary Court for reconsideration.
Previously, Milad Panahipour, Fallah’s defense attorney, stated that his client had been accused of detonating a small sound bomb outside the Gilan Province Judiciary building on June 1, 2023. According to the lawyer, an expert assessment determined that the incident caused only 15 million tomans in property damage and resulted in no injuries or casualties. Nevertheless, the court issued the death sentence under Article 687 of the Islamic Penal Code, characterizing the alleged act as “destruction of property with the intent to disrupt public order and confront the government.” Fallah’s attorney argued that this legal interpretation lacked a lawful basis.
Fallah was arrested by security forces at Rasht Airport in July 2023 and transferred to Lakan Prison in the city.
In December 2023, in his first case, Branch 3 of the Rasht Revolutionary Court sentenced him to one year, three months, and one day in prison on the charge of “insulting the Supreme Leader” and an additional seven months and 16 days on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.” Following his acceptance of the verdict, his sentence was reduced by one-quarter. He completed his prison term in connection with this case in May 2024.
