Iranian dissident Hashem Aghajari's death sentence for blasphemy will most probably be quashed by the supreme court, the student news agency ISNA said, quoting the head of the judiciary in western Hamadan province, Zekrollah Ahmadi.
"It is highly probable that the State Supreme Court will quash the (death) sentence, since I as the head of the judiciary apparatus here have objected to the ruling," Ahmadi said.
Aghajari, a history professor at Tehran University and a disabled war veteran, was convicted of blasphemy by a judge in Hamedan for calling in a speech there for a reformation of the state religion of Shiite Islam.
