Irene Pivetti, MP for the centre-left UDEUR party, called for a re-introduction of capital punishment in order to punish paedophiles. The move followed the publication of a list of names of paedophiles by the daily newspaper Libero. An independent police syndicate (Libero Sindacato Polizia) also expressed its favour for the use of capital punishment for those who abuse minors before killing them.
