JAPAN. DEATH PENALTY SOUGHT FOR COUPLE OVER KILLING OF 7 IN FUKUOKA

prosecutors in Japan demanded the death penalty for a man and a woman in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, accusing them of killing seven people including the woman's own relatives in the late 1990s. Futoshi Matsunaga, 43, conspiring with his common-law wife Junko Ogata, 43, tortured to death a 34-year-old man, who was living with the couple, in February 1996, and then over a period of seven months up to June 1998 killed six of Ogata's relatives including her father and mother, prosecutors told the Kokura branch of the Fukuoka District Court.
