two men charged with killing a Laguna mayor, his driver, and a policeman were sentenced to death in the Philippines. Pasig City regional trial court Judge Jesus Bersamira found Edwin Librea and Donato Bulasag guilty of killing Mabitac mayor Bernardo Sayarot, his driver Gabriel Fuentes, and Senior Police Officer 2 Eduardo Sena in 2001. Two other suspects remain at large.
Court records said Sayarot and his driver were on board a Mitsubishi Delican van when four men on board a Lancer cut their path on Sumulong Avenue in Teresa, Rizal about 3 pm on October 29, 2001. The suspects opened fire at the vehicle, hitting the mayor and his driver several times. Policemen from the Teresa Police Station gave chase and caught up with the suspects who also opened fire, killing Sena. The suspects tried to run away but policemen caught Librea and Bulasag.
