JAPAN: SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS DEATH SENTENCE FOR MAN OVER 2003 MURDERS

Japan's Supreme Court rejected an appeal by Mitsunori Onogawa, 32, sentenced to death over two separate murders in Gunma Prefecture in 2003.
The Saitama District Court sentenced him to death in 2004, the Tokyo High Court upholding the decision in 2006. Onogawa and Tomoaki Takanezawa, 42, allegedly robbed and strangled a pachinko parlour employee in February and then another in April, throwing their bodies into a river in Saitama Prefecture. Takanezawa is on death row after withdrawing his appeal.
