Jurors today recommended Lawrence Joey Smith

Jurors today recommended Lawrence Joey Smith be executed. The final vote was 7-5 to send 30-year-old Smith back to Florida's death row for killing 17-year-old Robert Crawford on Sept. 14, 1999. Unlike when a jury is deciding guilt or innocence, when verdicts must be unanimous, a sentencing recommendation is decided by a majority vote. Smith was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death in 2001. However, the Florida Supreme Court overturned his death sentence in 2004 and ordered that he be resentenced.  The sentencing hearing is set for March 13. Circuit Judge Lynn Tepper will announce the sentence on April 22.
