Justice Secretary Hernando Perez said that kidnap-for-ransom convicts Roderick Licayan and Roberto Lara would be scheduled for execution by lethal injection starting August this year.
The Supreme Court affirmed Licayan and Lara's death sentences on Aug. 15, 2001. Under, the law the state could already implement the death sentence one year after the Supreme Court affirmation and not later than six months thereafter.
Licayan and Lara were convicted for the kidnapping for ransom of De La Salle University coed Agnes Guirindola in Marikina some seven years ago. The kidnappers shot Guirindola and left her for dead, but she survived.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court affirmed the death sentences of four more kidnappers: Gerardo Bacungay, Eric Ricofrando, Cris Iglesia and Renato Mendez to die by lethal injection for the kidnap-for-ransom of three Filipino-Chinese residents of Makati City in 1995.
