Kalu Mia alias Kaosar, 28, Quddus Ali, 30, Hajrat Ali, 32, Zulhash, 35 and Firoze Mia, 33 were sentenced to death by a court in Narayanganj, Bangladesh, after being convicted of killing Abdul Awal over a land dispute

Kalu Mia alias Kaosar, 28, Quddus Ali, 30, Hajrat Ali, 32, Zulhash, 35 and Firoze Mia, 33 were sentenced to death by a court in Narayanganj, Bangladesh, after being convicted of killing Abdul Awal over a land dispute. Kalu Mia was the only one on the dock at the time of sentencing.
The other four convicts were on the run and sentenced in absentia.
Police had arrested all the five of the men before they went into hiding following their released on bail.
According to the prosecution, Abdul Awal was called out of his house on January 14, 1999 on plea of registration of land.
He was taken to an adjacent house where, in a secluded room, his son-in-law Quddus and the others killed him.
The other four convicts were on the run and sentenced in absentia.
