Five people were sentenced to death in two separate murder cases in Bangladesh, the Independent reported. A convict known as Islamuddin was sentenced to death for killing Shabul, 12, while Joinul Miah, Phool Miah, Nizamuddin and Abdullah were awarded capital punishment for murdering Soiful Alam. District and Sessions Judge, Sylhet, M Ismail Miyan and Additional District and Sessions Judge, Third Court, pronounced the verdicts separately in their respective court rooms.
In the Shabul murder case, the prosecution alleged that on 4 October 2002, Abu Salem alias Shabul was on his way to offer prayers near an ice cream factory when he was kidnapped by Islamuddin, an employee of the factory, who then "chopped him to death."
