Lan Rong, a banker convicted of embezzling some 10 million yuan from rural savings accounts, was executed in northern China's Weinan city, Shaanxi province, the official Xinhua news agency reported. Lan allegedly embezzled the funds from savings accounts at the Tongguan county branch of the Construction Bank of China from between March 1997 and November 2000, the report said. He was convicted by the Weinan intermediate court and his appeal to the Shaanxi higher court was turned down.
