Main opposition True Path Party [DYP] leader Tansu Ciller has said that parliament should refrain from going into recess in order to allow a comprehensive debate on the commitments made for the EU process, not only the death penalty issue, but the cultural issues as well. The Motherland Party [ANAP], in its part, appears ready for conciliation. Ciller declared that her party approves Kurdish broadcasts via the TRT-Int channel. The fact that ANAP and the DYP have agreed on certain issues is not sufficient to reach a solution. We engaged in assessments on the basis of this realistic view. Our concurrence on one subject does not resolve the matter. We clearly outlined this. As for the amendment of the death penalty issue, if faced with the final choice of the EU versus the amendment of the death penalty, Mrs Ciller made it clear that she will definitely opt for the EU.
