Major Singh and Baldev Singh were sentenced to death by an Additional District and Sessions Court in India after being convicted of killing their brother in law. Two other people accused in the case were found not guilty. It was alleged in 1992, the convicts' sister Sukhwinder Kaur married to Kashmir Singh, but she died three years later and the accused suspected her husband's involvement in her death. To avenge the death of their sister, on January 24, 1999, the duo murdered Kashmir Singh in the presence of his father and brother, Lakhbir Singh.
