MALAYSIA. COURT DISMISSES DEATH PENALTY APPEAL OF DECEASED MAN

the Malaysian Federal Court dismissed the appeal of businessman Alex Wong Teck Choy against his death sentence for murder. During the hearing, counsel Datuk Muhammad Shafee Abdullah informed the court that his client had died on May 8.
Wong had been sentenced to death on August 2, 2002, by the Seremban High Court after being found guilty of murdering Seow Nan Keong, then 27, in front of the Goal Pub in Taman Thivy Jaya in Rasah, Negri Sembilan, on January 14, 2001. The court unanimously dismissed his appeal and upheld the death sentence handed down on May 20, 2005.
Wong was said to have collapsed in his cell in the Kajang Prison on April 26, 2005, causing a head injury which lead to his death following hospital treatment.
