MALAYSIA. DEATH SENTENCE UPHELD FOR MURDER

the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya, Malaysia, upheld the death sentence handed down to a former security guard, Mohd Abbas Danus Baksan, who was found guilty of murdering 10-year old Nurul Huda Abdul Ghani in Johor. Mohd Abbas, 48, had appealed against the conviction and sentence imposed on 27 August 2004 by the Johor Baharu High Court for the murder of Nurul Huda on 17 January 2004. He had also been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and to 24 lashes for raping the girl.
Nurul Huda's naked body was found in a security booth toilet. She had earlier gone to a shop about 500 metres from her house to buy some groceries.
