Maurizio Turco and Marco Cappato (both Lista Bonino MEPs), together with Ottavio Marzocchi, deposited an interrogation request at the European Parliament aimed at finding out what measures the European Council and the European Commission would take regarding the case of Jibrin Babaji, sentenced to death by stoning in Nigeria.
Babaji was sentenced to death on September 23 by a Sharia court in the Northern Bauchi State for having had homosexual relations with three boys.
"Have the Council and the Commission more information relating to the case? What measures do the Council and the Commission aim to implement, in conformity with European policy aimed at promoting a worldwide moratorium on the death penalty, so as to make sure the sentence is not executed?", asked the MEPs.
