Mesut Yilmaz, ANAP [Motherland Party] leader and deputy prime minister, has said that a conciliation excluding coalition partner MHP [Nationalist Action Party] will not be sought on issues other than capital punishment.
Bahceli replied to reporters' questions in parliament on the statement that Mesut Yilmaz made to the effect that his party is against the execution of terrorist ringleader Ocalan and that they will seek a conciliation with the opposition in a bid to entirely abolish capital punishment. He said that the clear stand adopted by his party on capital punishment will continue when the issue is included on the Assembly agenda as well.
Noting that the MHP respects the fact that Yilmaz has expressed his opinion as the leader of a political party, Bahceli said that this issue will not cause any difficulty within the coalition. He stressed, however, that making a habit of seeking methods of conciliation outside the coalition partners within the Assembly will create a problem.
