Michael Dale Rimmer, 37, was sentenced to death for the second time for the Feb. 8, 1997 murder of his former girlfriend. Judge W. Fred Axley read the verdict, and set an execution date of Dec. 3. The execution will be stayed for appeals. Rimmer was convicted and sentenced to death in 1998 for the murder of Ricci Lynn Ellsworth, 45, but a state appeals court awarded him a new trial after ruling the jury's verdict form was improper and ambiguous. Tennessee now has 96 men and 2 women on death row.
