Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin suggested that parliament make urgent amendments to the constitution in order to ban death penalty.
"Although Moldova's Criminal Code, approved in 2002, does not envisage death penalty, the country's Constitution has a point on applying death penalty 'for actions made during war or with an inevitable threat of war,'" Voronin said. Voronin believed that these points were damaging the country's image on the international arena.
