"My name is Oliviero Toscani and I would like to talk about the death penalty, even though it seems ridiculous of me to talk about it in April 2001". In his first UN speech, delivered in Geneva, the photographer Oliviero Toscani speaking on behalf of Hands Off Cain and the Transnational Radical Party, used no uncertain terms to denounce the death penalty. "We don't want to belong to a race that legalises the executioners work (...), those who belong to the human race don't want revenge but justice, and they don't want to be accomplices of those who kill thinking they are doing a good deed", said Toscani, who recalled the personal experiences of working on the campaign "We on death row", which brought him in contact with 26 death row inmates in prisons around the US. "In their eyes I saw the drama of a failed life, the abscence of all future....", he recalled. Toscani declared himself "happy to be at the UN".
