Nguyen Van Thi, a 31-year-old farmer, was sentenced to death by firing squad by the provincial court of Dak Lak province in Vietnam after being convicted of raping and murdering a woman

Nguyen Van Thi, a 31-year-old farmer, was sentenced to death by firing squad by the provincial court of Dak Lak province in Vietnam after being convicted of raping and murdering a woman.
The attack took place in September 2003 when Thi saw Phan Thi Tuyet, 25, was cutting grass near Thi's house.
He allegedly raped her and strangled her to death before disposing of her body down a well and stealing her jewellery and money.
Thi's 25-year-old brother was also given a two-year prison sentence for harbouring him after the crime.
