Paul Kutosi , a Ugandan who won an appeal against a death sentence in Kenya petitioned a human rights body seeking compensation. Kutosi, a resident of Manjiya County in Mbale had been convicted of robbery and illegal migration by a Kenyan magistrate's court in Kitale on October 27, 1995. He appealed to the higher court in Kitale, which acquitted him on January 21, 2004. Kutosi told the Uganda Human Rights Activists, that the Kenyan authorities arrested him for no justified cause. Kutosi was demanding compensation from the Kenyan government for illegal detention, defamation and the death of his two children. He said they died because he was in detention. He also said the Kenyan government must pay his daily earnings for the nine years he spent in jail.
