nine men who were executed in Sudan for the murder of a journalist may have been innocent because they were tortured to confess to the crime, two civil society groups say. Amnesty International and The Darfur Relief and Documentation Centre (DRDC) said all the men were from the Fur tribe in the war-torn western region. “The process that led to the conviction and execution of these individuals was flawed and inconsistent with universal human rights standards. It failed to meet minimum standards of justice and fair trial thus violating national and international customary law.”
