None of the 40000 leads followed up by United States investigators into the September 11 terror attacks led to South Africa, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Aziz Pahad said.
South Africa has ruled out military support for the US's war against terrorism, but pledged to assist with investigations.
South Africa was indirectly involved in the previous terrorist attack against the US, the bombings of the US embassies in Dar Es Salaam and Nairobi, when a suspect, Khalfan Mohamed, was arrested there and handed over to the US.
A Constitutional Court ruling had slammed the State for not seeking guarantees against the death penalty.
"There are certain constitutional limitations on how we can just act, but we will try within that, to co-operate as fully as possible," Pahad said."We don't have the death sentence. In general, as the constitutional court ruled we are unable to extradite citizens to countries where there is a death sentence."
