officials disclosed that Mushtaq Ahmed, a Pakistani man sentenced to death for trying to assassinate President Pervez Musharraf in 2003, escaped from prison. Ahmed escaped from an air force jail in the northern city of Rawalpindi on November 25 when he was allowed to take a bath and his guard fell asleep, according to an initial report. He had been sentenced to death in the December 14, 2003, assassination attempt against General Musharraf -- the first of two attempts that month -- when a bridge blew up seconds after his motorcade passed by. No one was hurt.
