Oman's supreme court rejected an appeal by Rebecca Thompson, a 43 year old American woman, against a death sentence for killing her husband. The judgement confirmed a sentence handed down in July. Thompson's husband, oil worker Mark Lee Thompson, was battered to death in December 2003. During her trial, Thompson said that she was provoked into beating her husband to death with an iron bar. Thompson's 14-year-old son by a previous marriage, who had been given a three-year suspended sentence for complicity in the killing, had been sent back to the United States because of his age. An appeal lodged by two 17-year-old Omani boys against their sentence of 10 years imprisonment for complicity in the killing was also rejected.
