On April 1, a large number of school children in New Delhi took to the streets against the spurt in violence in the capital in the past few months. A memorandum was later submitted to Home Minister L. K. Advani stressing the concern voiced by the children. The memorandum demanded the death sentence for the criminals involved in the rape of minors. Some MPs and Congress Party leader H. K. L. Bhagat also took part in the demonstration.
