On April 2, a Beijing court sentenced to death Ma Ke, 18, and Jiang Tao, 46, for stabbing Zou Jingmeng to death in the city's western Haidian district on February 22. Zou Jingmeng, 70, was a younger brother of Zou Jiahua, 72, a vice-chairman of parliament and a former member of the Communist Party's powerful Politburo. The younger Zou was formerly director of the State Meteorological Bureau and a member of the standing committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, an advisory body to parliament.
