On April 2, Hiwat Shenkuta Shine, a 24-year-old Ethiopian woman confessed to killing her newborn baby by throwing him from a 7th-floor apartment in Sidon at the end of March. She may face the death sentence. Ms. Shine said that she hid the fact that she was pregnant from her employers when she arrived in the country, because she feared they would fire her. She explained that she delivered the baby by herself, while her employers were busy preparing Al-Adha feast sweets. She left no trace of the delivery by hiding her placenta, the paper towels she used to wipe the blood, and the umbilical cord, which she tore with her hands, in a black plastic bag.
