On February 12, Bananya Nadim Abdullah, a woman aged 24, was sentenced to death after pleading guilty to enlisting the help of 2 young shoeshine boys to kill her stepson near Zghorta in 1994. The boys are still awaiting trial at a court for juvenile delinquents. She paid the 2 boys, aged 13 and 10, to kill Khodr Abdullah, the 5-year-old son of her husband, Abdel-Qader Abdullah by his first wife, Tripoli's Criminal Court ruled. Mr Abdullah, who is a nomad, wanted to make his 2 wives live in the same tent in Airounieh. The shoeshine boys, reportedly killed Khodr by smashing his head with a rock and a metallic pipe. The death sentence, which needs the signature of President Emile Lahoud to be carried out, can be appealed.
