On February 5, Mao Du-ngae, 20, and Bang, 19, 2 illegal Burmese immigrants who were initially given the death penalty by the Thon Buri Criminal Court, had their sentences commuted to life following their confession and co-operation throughout the entire prosecution process. They entered a grocery shop owned by Sommai and Riam Parichat on August 26, 1998, and stole their belongings and cash, worth Bt38,000 ($1,037). They knifed both victims to death before fleeing.
