On July 21, the parents of Kuo Ching-ho said in a letter that they felt ashamed of their son's cold-blooded crime. "We offer our heartfelt apology to society and the victim's family in a sincere, responsible manner," the Kuos said. They went on to say that their son had voluntarily given up the right to appeal for a retrial after being given a capital sentence, and had agreed to donate all of his organs to patients who needed them. Kuo's stepfather also revealed the contents of a letter his stepson had written in prison, which showed deep remorse for his crime.
