On November 21, Qatar's Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr al-Thani expressed the hope that Pakistan's ousted premier Nawaz Sharif will not be executed. Sharif and four others have been accused of criminal conspiracy, hijacking - which can carry a death penalty - attempted murder and kidnapping. Sheikh Hamad said he believed Pakistan's military ruler General Pervez Musharraf - who deposed Sharif in a bloodless coup in October - had a "humanitarian outlook" towards the issue.
