On November 19, the Iraqi Communist Party reported that Sharif Dafar Udah (70 years) was executed, along with his 7 sons: Husayn (44 years), Abd al-Rida (40 years), Muhammad (38 years), Hamid (36 years), Hamed (33 years), Qasim (28 years) and Wathiq (26 years). They were arrested for taking part in the attempted assassination of (President Saddam Hussein's eldest son) Uday in December 1998. After the arrest, Sharif and his seven sons disappeared without trace. His wife and daughters-in-law could not get any information about them, until the first heartbreaking news came 5 months later (April 19, 1999): the head of the family Sharif had been executed. The family had to go to Baghdad where they received his body, with strict orders that it must be buried in total secrecy with no traditional mourning ceremony. Two months later, while the women of the family were still in mourning and their children still feared for the fate of their fathers, who had "disappeared" behind the walls of one of the prisons in Baghdad, far more tragic news came: the 7 innocent brothers had been executed, like their father. The family was forced to recover their bodies one after the other, over the period May 15-25, 1999, from the Military Hospital in Rashid Camp in Baghdad. The family also found out that the seven brothers had been executed together in the execution chamber in the Public Security Directorate. The brothers were buried close to their father's grave in Najaf, also without any mourning ceremony.
