On November 4, the Deputy Permanent Representative at the United Nations in New York, in a statement made at the Third Committee of the General Assembly on item 118, question of implementation of human rights instruments, said the movement to promote the death penalty was felt particularly in the Caribbean, and especially in the former European colonies. "The vast majority of people in Barbados wish that the death penalty be retained and carried out in appropriate cases," he said.
