On November 5, speaking at the Third Committee of the General Assembly (human rights) under item 116a (death penalty), Alethia Barker referred to the draft resolution on the abolition of capital punishment to be introduced by the European Union and said International Law did not prohibit the imposition of the death penalty. States were sovereign to impose the judicial systems they desired. The death penalty was imposed for the most serious crimes in her country. She called on the cosponsors of that draft resolution to withdraw it.
