On September 10, the Atana City Court passed the death penalty on Martynov and Melnikov. As was reported earlier, during the evening inspection in the punishment block on June 3, 3 convicts took 3 punishment block guards hostage and demanded a helicopter to fly beyond Kazakhstan's frontiers. The criminals killed one of the guards. During a special operation to release hostages one of the criminals was killed. Before the hostage-taking incident the criminals had already been given a death sentence and were awaiting execution.
