One of the two senior policemen sentenced to death for murdering a truck driver after hijacking a truckload of copper has appealed to Supreme Court against both conviction and sentence.
Peter Mwamba and Charles Nkandu were convicted of murdering Collins Mulapwa and the attempted murder of Alice Kaubo on March 24, 2000.
They shot dead Mr Mulapwa after capturing him at a fake roadblock while Ms Kaubo a passenger who they thought was also dead escaped and later reported the matter to police.
The two were headed for Durban on a Charalombous truck laden with copper which was diverted to Lusaka west and later discovered at a farm where it was dumped.
In convicting them Lusaka high court judge Justice Hilda Chibomba said they had a motive to kill the deceased and an attempt was made to kill Ms Kaubo.
